Promoting mental health and wellness

Mental Health Festival

A Day of Fun, Football, and Mental Health Awareness

On October 27, 2024, Silver Jubilee Park in Kingsbury came alive with energy, joy, and community spirit as Every Contact Counts hosted the Chalkhill Mental Wellbeing Festival. This special event was dedicated to promoting mental health and wellness among Black Afro-Caribbean and other ethnic communities, creating a safe and engaging space for families, children, and residents to connect, learn, and celebrate.

A Community Coming Together

The festival was designed to break the stigma around mental health, particularly in ethnic communities where discussions around well-being are often overlooked. Through a mix of fun activities and important conversations, attendees were encouraged to prioritize their mental health and seek support when needed.

With entry at just £1, the event was open to everyone, and the turnout was a testament to the community’s eagerness to come together in support of this important cause.

Exciting Activities for All Ages

The day was packed with activities for children, families, and adults alike. From exciting football tournaments to delicious food stalls, there was something for everyone:

Kids’ Football Tournament (Ages 7-11) – A thrilling competition where young talents showed off their skills.
Community 11-a-side Match – A special game between local residents and clinicians & social workers, reinforcing the connection between healthcare professionals and the communities they serve.
Face Painting & Bouncy Castles – Pure joy for the little ones!
Raffles & Giveaways – Exciting prizes up for grabs.
Delicious Food & Sweet Treats – Ice cream, candy floss, and a variety of amazing dishes.
Health Checks & Information Stalls – Providing essential resources and support for mental and physical well-being.

More Than Just an Event – A Movement

The Chalkhill Mental Wellbeing Festival wasn’t just about fun and games; it was about education, awareness, and action. Throughout the event, attendees had access to mental health professionals, social workers, and clinicians, who shared valuable insights on managing mental well-being, seeking support, and fostering open conversations within families.

Richard Hay from Brent Council, one of the event’s key organizers, emphasized the importance of early mental health interventions and the need for community-driven support systems.

"Mental health should be treated with the same urgency as physical health. Through events like this, we can make conversations about mental well-being the norm, not the exception."

Looking Ahead

The success of this festival is a reminder of the power of community-driven initiatives in fostering mental wellness and inclusivity. Every Contact Counts is committed to continuing this mission through more events, workshops, and support networks in the future.
